What is a 'Chatter Chamber'?
noun: chatter chamber; plural noun: chatter chambers
A metaphorical description of a situation in which beliefs can be challenged or contradicted by communication inside an open (decentralised) system.
By visiting a "chatter chamber", people are able to seek out information which is different from their existing views, acting as a conscious exercise that may mitigate any confirmation or implicit bias held. Interacting with chatter chambers may also decrease political and social polarization and extremism. The term is a metaphor based on the opposite type of occurrences to those describing echo chambers. Whereas echo chambers describe situations that only amplify individual views, like an acoustic echo chamber where sounds reverberate in a hollow enclosure, chatter chambers metaphorically describe the opposite.
"Last night was a real chatter chamber. So many different ideas and perspectives!"
